Product Overview

Continuous Machinery Protection

The 990-05-50-02-05 continuously monitors shaft vibration from a compatible 3300 NSv proximity probe and matching extension cable. Internal electronics process the eddy-current signal and provide a linear 4–20 mA analog output proportional to vibration amplitude.

The transmitter also features a dedicated PROX OUT terminal that provides dynamic vibration and gap voltage signals for commissioning, troubleshooting, and predictive maintenance. A built-in Not OK/Signal Defeat circuit drives the output below the normal operating range when a probe or cable fault is detected, allowing maintenance personnel to identify transducer failures quickly. Key Features & Benefits

Integrated Proximitor® Electronics

The transmitter incorporates Bently Nevada's Proximitor® signal conditioning internally, simplifying installation and reducing wiring requirements. (Baker Hughes 990 Vibration Transmitter Datasheet)

Wide Measurement Range

The 05 range measures vibration from 0 to 5 mils peak-to-peak (0–125 μm pp), making it suitable for a broad range of rotating equipment.

Bulkhead Mounting

Option 02 allows secure installation directly onto equipment panels or enclosure walls using mounting screws, eliminating the need for DIN rail hardware.

Hazardous-Area Certification

Approval 05 provides multiple international hazardous-location certifications for use in appropriately classified industrial environments. Users should verify the exact certification markings on the product nameplate before installation.

Standard 4–20 mA Output

The transmitter provides a linear analog signal compatible with virtually all industrial control and monitoring systems.

Diagnostic PROX OUT

The dedicated diagnostic output enables waveform analysis, gap voltage verification, and system commissioning without interrupting the process signal.

Rugged Construction

Fully encapsulated electronics provide excellent protection against moisture, vibration, dust, and harsh industrial environments.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the 990-05-50-02-05 used for?

It continuously measures shaft vibration and converts it into a 4–20 mA signal for machinery monitoring and protection.

2. What does "05" after 990 indicate?

It specifies a 0–5 mils peak-to-peak (0–125 μm pp) vibration measurement range.

3. What does "50" represent?

It indicates compatibility with a 5-meter 3300 NSv transducer system.

4. What does mounting option "02" mean?

Option 02 specifies bulkhead mounting, allowing direct installation using mounting screws.

5. What does approval code "05" indicate?

Option 05 identifies a multi-region hazardous-area certified version of the transmitter. The exact approvals should be confirmed from the unit's certification label and current Baker Hughes documentation.

6. Which proximity probe is compatible?

The transmitter is designed for use with a Bently Nevada 3300 NSv proximity probe and its matching extension cable.

7. What power supply does it require?

It operates from a +12 to +35 VDC two-wire loop-powered supply.

8. Can it connect directly to a PLC or DCS?

Yes. The 4–20 mA output is designed for direct integration with PLC, DCS, SCADA, and distributed monitoring systems.

9. Does it provide diagnostic signals?

Yes. The PROX OUT terminal provides dynamic vibration and gap voltage signals for testing and diagnostics.
